Isao Hashimoto’s time lapse of nuclear detonations. Of the over 2000 nuclear bombs detonated during the last 70 years only 2 of them have been during conflict. The remaining detonations have occurred in peacetime with the world’s major powers exploding up to 100 bombs each year. Between 1956 and 1960 300 nuclear tests were made at the height of the Cold War 700 nuclear weapons were detonated between 1960 and 1968. That huge number was eclipsed between 1969 and 1980 with nearly 1,200 bombs being detonated by 5 major nuclear powers; US, USSR, UK, France & China. Late comers India and Pakistan added to this and since the creation of the time lapse North Korea has also added to the number of detonations.
